Why I'll Wear Blue

I never used to care about awareness months or days. If my job was having us wear a specific color for one cause or another, then of course, I played along but I never gave it much thought. Now I think I finally understand it. Its a chance for that person to get the word out about their loved one's challenges, not just autism but childhood cancer, type 1 diabetes, breast cancer, heart disease and the list goes on and on. Sure, wearing a certain color does nothing for raising money to help the research but the fundraising is a whole other issue, most people just would like to be heard. Having a major challenge in your life like the ones listed above and so many others, can make you feel isolated and lonely. Family and friends are wonderfully supportive but even they can't hear about it 24/7. So wearing that color, pin, bracelet etc. give them a chance to connect with others, feel supported and most of all, loved.

I will wear blue because I love my son. Everyone loves their kids (or at least they should), that's a no brainer.  But I want my son to understand even at 2 1/2 years old that I am now and always will be proud of him. I don't judge him for the actions he can't control, the things he can't do yet or the behavior resulting from his misunderstanding. I want him to know that I'm not embarrassed. He will grow up knowing he is loved. Not just for one day or one month but everyday all year long. But for one day, we ask everyone else to say it too. So wear blue, start a conversation and spread awareness.
I welcome you to share this photo and help stop
people's ignorance about a very reverent disorder in today's world
